What happened
Workers found downstream ropes freezing while upstream snow melted. Court diagrams represented the transfer with a reversed arrow, later misread as a reversal of the river itself. The surviving instruments were checked at room temperature and declared sound. Mira Pell’s cold tests may explain why that reassurance was premature.
