Pilot Cant
A working vocabulary of calls, taps and visible signals used across political borders.
Meaning depends on the material struck as well as the number of taps. A warning repeated on wood and stone is not the same warning. The Nettlepond school is documenting the cant so newcomers can learn it safely, while older pilots fear fixed instructions will imply the water itself stops changing.
Its role in the current crisis connects ordinary work to the larger dispute over who benefits, who pays and who is allowed to describe what happened.
