Give your world names with character

Use the name generator as a starting point, then build a naming tradition of your own.

  1. Choose the sound before the spelling

Decide what makes a group of names belong together: short syllables, repeated endings, a formal title, or a familiar root. Write down two or three examples. Different regions can follow different traditions.

  2. Generate a small shortlist

Open the name generator and choose the category or naming register that fits your setting. Compare several suggestions aloud. Keep names that are easy to distinguish at the table or on the page.

  3. Make the result yours

Change syllables, add a family name, or reuse a regional root. A name can suggest a history without requiring a long explanation. Give closely connected characters noticeably different names to reduce confusion.

  4. Record the naming rule

Add a note, culture or language entry explaining the pattern. Link important people and places to that entry. This gives future additions a consistent starting point.

  5. Use the existing entry when renaming

Rename the character or place in its article rather than creating a replacement record. Check linked prose and search afterward, particularly imported plain-text references. A text mention and a link to an entry are not always the same thing.
