Qalen Damar
Qalen remembers when every rescue incurred a debt payable to the harbor office.
The person
Qalen remembers when every rescue incurred a debt payable to the harbor office. He abolished the charge after a family sold its boat to pay for being saved. He now objects to extending votes to all arrivals, fearing outside fleets could purchase the council. His granddaughter asks why trust should stop at the ballot box.
Place in the family
Their children are Neris Damar and Ari Damar. Family authority does not settle the disagreement described above.
Neris receives foreign captains in a warehouse whose doors remain open during council meetings.
Ari opened the Nettlepond school to displaced sailors and local children together.
The Damars became tidekeepers by turning a toll pier into a rescue station.
Isen draws shoals as dated observations rather than permanent shapes.
Qirarden offered sanctuary to sailors whose vessels disappeared from Aranestel’s rescue records.
Hedra records the sound of furnace valves by making notches in a wooden flute.
