Resonance Binding
A craft that redirects motion through tuned materials and pays for every imbalance.
Binding transfers an existing oscillation between materials tuned to the same interval. A quay bell can steady a small floating platform by taking its motion into a suspended counterweight. The counterweight still moves; disguising that cost is fraud, not mastery.
Large bindings demand accurate measurements and a safe place for displaced energy to go. The Listening Engine was built to distribute tidal surges across several basins. Its sealed records conceal which inhabited shore became the final counterweight. A beautiful theory does not excuse an unconsenting participant.
A brief calm that makes a sounding possible without stopping the tide.
A buried machine whose greatest danger is the missing page in its instructions.
Three shores share one sea, and none can afford to let it fall silent.
A city built around the harbor bell whose silence everyone fears.
Estuary towns that lend ships freely and remember debts precisely.
A high coast whose stone roads outlast its rulers.
